An air mattress is also known as an inflatable mattress. It is commonly used as a floating mattress, and therefore you should choose an air mattress depending on the type and use. Consider buying an air mattress that is relatively cheaper and comfortable. Air mattresses can be damaged due to many reasons, such as when camping.

Secondly, air mattresses can be damaged due to improper use. Poor usage of the air mattress can destroy the mattress. Therefore, ensure that the mattress is used correctly. Moreover, cold temperatures can deflate the mattress. Cold temperatures reduce pressure in the air mattress, thus forming holes that leak the pressure.

Steps On How To Repair The Mattress Without Using A Patch Kit

Method 1

How To Fix A Hole In An Air Mattress Without A Patch Kit

Step 1: Collect all materials required for the repairs

Gather all the necessary materials such as rubber gloves, sponge, and the damaged air mattress, among others.

Step 2: Identify any leaking holes in the air mattress

First, you have to pump more pressure into your air mattress until it is complete. After filling the mattress with air, take it outside, away from damages, and place it slowly on the floor

Step 3: Bring a basin full of clean water and a detergent or soap

Gently add the detergent or soap into the basin containing water. Mix it until it dissolves, ultimately forming a form.

Step 4: Clean the air mattress using water with soap

Get your sponge and dip it in water with soap. Slowly clean the air mattress using a soapy sponge. Clean every place using soapy water and identify the area that blows out the foam.

Step 5: Place some markings on the leaking area

Using either a marking pen or any other marking material, mark the area that has leaking holes.

Step 6: Rinse the air mattress and leave it to dry

Wipe the air mattress using a clean sponge with clean water until all soap has been removed. Place the bed in the air and leave it to completely dry. After drying, confirm if the markings are still present.

Step 7: Put on your rubber gloves

The rubber gloves prevent your hands from any possible damages. Ensure you wear them properly, covering the whole hand’s area.

Step 8: Use a vinyl adhesive recommended by the manufacture and apply it to the leaking holes

Use adhesives that the manufacturer has recommended. Apply the glue slowly but gently to prevent it from contacting the skin and covering the marked leaking areas.

Step 9: Leave the used adhesive to dry completely

Place the adhesive in the air and allow it to dry completely. After drying, repeat the process of applying the glue to the areas that were previously added.

Step 10: Leave the applied adhesive again to dry completely

Ensure that the adhesive is completely dry. Try to test the air mattress if the leaking holes have been thoroughly sealed. If they have not been completely closed, repeat the process repeatedly until the air mattress leaking holes have been thoroughly sealed.

Method 2Method 2

Step 1: Identify the leaking holes in the air mattress

Fill your air mattress with air and monitor it to see if its pressure keeps decreasing. If you notice that the air mattress is deflating, there are leakages. You can also fill your air mattress and put weight on the inflated mattress and leave it all night until morning.

If the pressure has decreased by morning, then the air mattress has leaking holes. The more the leakage holes, the more the deflation.

Check all areas of the air mattress to identify any leakages, including the bottom part.

Step 2: Try to listen to the air mattress for any sounds from the leaking holes

Stay near the air mattress and put your ear close to it. Listen carefully for any sounds that are being produced by the leaking holes. If you hear some hissing sounds, It means that your air mattress is leaking and requires some fixation.

Step 3: Mark the leaking holes using a marker pen

After identifying all the leaking holes, mark them using a permanent pen marker and then remove all air from the air mattress.

Step 4: Leave the air mattress to dry completely

Before carrying out some repairs, ensure that your air mattress is completely dry.

Step 5: Fix leaking holes using duct tape

Seal all the leaking holes using duct tape. Avoid using glues because they may not be able to seal the holes for long. Also, ensure that you don’t use hot adhesives because they can damage the air mattress by melting places where the glue was used. Ensure that the leaking holes have been thoroughly sealed.

Method 3Method 3

Instead of using a patch kit, you can use your homemade patch to repair the air mattress with holes.

Step 1: Trim thin plastic into a square

Collect a malleable plastic that you will require. Cut it in a square shape, with each side having around one to two centimeters to cover the leaking holes.

Step 2: Place the homemade patch onto the air mattress

Slowly place the square-shaped malleable plastic on the leaking place and attach it to the holes firmly using superglue. Super Glue holds the plastic in place and prevents it from falling off.

Step 3: Press the plastic material placed on the leaking walls gently

Ensure you press the plastic attached to the leaking wall smoothly while getting rid of the excess superglue. Ensure that the superglue holds the plastic firmly.

Step 4: Test the air mattress to ensure all holes have been sealed

Try placing weight on the air mattress and leave it for 5 to 7 hours. Check the air mattress after the time set to see if it has deflated. If the mattress remains inflated, that means your air mattress leaking holes have been successfully sealed but if your mattress still reduces, repeat the process above until the holes are permanently sealed.

Step 5: Replace the air mattress

If the methods above fail to work, it means that your air mattress has been damaged beyond repair. Therefore, you will be required to replace the whole mattress. Before replacing:

  1.     Visit a licensed seller and inquire why your air mattress fixation fails.
  2.     Consult on the best air mattress for replacement.
  3.     Look for an air mattress that is strong and relatively cheap.

Carrying out all these methods is a bit simpler and effective, especially the homemade patch.

Conclusion

Air mattresses are essential since they provide comfort, especially when floating. Therefore, they are adequately taken care of to avoid any damages such as leaking holes. If you don’t have a patch kit to repair your distorted air mattress, you can use the above methods while following each step until you fix your air mattress.
